Concept Note : Leap of Light

Amsterdam, long known as the “City of Bridges,” is shaped as much by its visible crossings as by the quieter movements of people, ideas, and shifting identities. This light installation draws from Fierljeppen, the traditional Dutch sport of vaulting across the water- not for its athletic form, but for what it evokes: a moment suspended between two points, fleeting yet full of possibility. The arc of the leap reflects something innate in human life: the urge to move, cross thresholds, and find meaning in transience. In that brief, weightless passage lies something deeply familiar: the feeling of leaving and becoming, of risking the unknown for the possibility of connection. Amsterdam, a city shaped by centuries of arrival and reinvention, holds these movements within its fabric. Here, migration is not only a

passage from one place to another, but a continuous negotiation of self and belonging. In that sense, the act of vaulting resonates with the city’s ethos, fluid, open, always in motion.
